2018 Workshops and Fiddle Camps

March 2-4, 2018 — Grass Seeds Music Academy for Kids

Grass Seeds Academy is a weekend-long jam camp where kids learn to how to make music together, as a band! The program is designed for youth ages 8-18 and is open to all experience levels. No bluegrass experience is required, just an instrument and a willingness to learn!

The students learn about jamming etiquette, ensemble playing, how to play back-up, how to take a lead break, plus singing lead and harmony vocals. The kids have a lot of fun, but they work hard too.

I’ll be teaching Grass Seeds this year with The High 48s. Chris Silver and Hannah Khalisch will be joining us this year. Chris will be teaching Grass Seeds 2, a program designed for the older kids, and Hannah will be teaching fiddle students, too (we get a lot of fiddlers!).

More information and registration here.

June 7-9, 2018 — International Music Camp Fiddler’s Weekend

I’ll be back again at the International Music Camp’s Fiddler’s Weekend along Mike Hedding, Anthony Ihrig and Rich Casey of the High 48s. If you’re a Canadian fiddler looking to learn some bluegrass fiddling, or vice versa, this is your chance!

June 19-23 — Fiddle Pal Camp: Stillwater, MN

June 26-30 — Fiddle Pal Camp: Madison, WI

Super excited to be part of the Fiddle Pal Camp this year in Stillwater, MN and Madison, WI. The Fiddle Pal Camp is the brainchild of Brian Wicklund, whose American Fiddle Method books have been a staple of my teaching studio for years. I’ll be joined by Shauncey Ali, a great newgrass fiddler and educator from Madison, and Katie McNally, an outstanding Scottish fiddler from Boston.

And for the mandolin students out there, Matt Flinner will be teaching mandolin at the Minnesota camp. If you’re not familiar with Matt yet, you need to be!
