For years, The High 48s have been teaching Grass Seeds Academy, our annual bluegrass jam camp for kids, at the Minnesota Bluegrass and Old-Time Music Association’s winter festival in March.
It’s been incredibly gratifying to work with the next generation of bluegrass pickers and singers. And they never stop amazing us! Some Grass Seeds alums have gone on to become professional musicians themselves, forming bands, gracing the stage of A Prairie Home Companion and recording songs that have made it to the bluegrass charts.
And Clint Birtzer, our new guitarist and singer? Wait for it…he’s a Grass Seeds alum, too!
So we’ve been working with the bluegrass association to expand Grass Seeds beyond a once-a-year event. This year, we’re pleased to announce that we’ll be teaching a one-day mini Grass Seeds at MBOTMA’s fall festival on October 27, from 9:30am to 5pm in Plymouth, MN.
If you’re new to Grass Seeds, here’s the drill. During the jam camp, the kids form bands and we work with them as their teachers/producers/bluegrass lifecoaches to put together a short set they’ll perform — with the High 48s or on their own — on the festival’s main stage.
We offer instruction on fiddle/violin/viola, guitar, mandolin, banjo, bass and vocals.
