The High 48s are partnering up with the Minnesota State Fiddler’s Association for an afternoon band workshop this fall in Brooklyn Center, MN.
The focus of this workshop will be on playing bluegrass with others, either in a jam setting or in a bluegrass band.
This workshop is open to anyone who plays a bluegrass instrument: fiddle, mandolin, banjo, bass and guitar. And, of course, I’ll be teaching the fiddlers. We’ll also be giving instruction on harmony singing.
Topics will include arranging songs and vocal harmonies, playing backup, playing solos, building repertoire and writing set lists. We’ll also talk a little about jam etiquette and how to jam at a bluegrass festival or pickin’ party.
We’ll start off working with the individual instruments (fiddle, mandolin, banjo, bass and guitar) in breakout sessions. Then we’ll bring everyone together to practice playing and singing as a band.
We cover a lot of ground in these workshops, but we like to keep the vibe upbeat and fun. Players of all levels of experience are welcome.
The workshop will be followed by a short concert with The High 48s. All workshop participants are welcome to join us onstage for a song or two!
